A new year also means it's the arrival of my birthday month, January! I am so thankful to continue the feeling of celebration right after the holidays. It makes the holiday blues a little more endurable.
I picked up one of the birthday gifts from Sephora, as I do every year. I think 2018 was the first year that they have 3 choices:
- Bite Beauty lip products - lip color & lip care
- Bumble and bumble hair products - shampoo and conditioner
- Glamglow skin care products - moisturizer and mask
I have little interest in hair care products and Glamglow is not one of my favourite skin care brands (I had a bad sensitivity issue with one of their masks). So I chose the Bite Beauty package.
It comes with a duo sample of the Agave Lip Balm in Clear with the Agave Lip Scrub, mini Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Chai and a mini Matte Crème Lip Crayon in Glacé.
This is a great bundle if you haven't tried out Bite Beauty lip products yet, I finally discovered that the Agave lip duo didn't work out for me. The scrub was too sticky, almost honey like with very few sugar crystals. I found that the lip scrubs from Lush is a much better choice for your money. They have an insane amount of sugar crystals that makes them more effective in scrubbing and is also edible like Bite Beauty's – honestly, better tasting as well. As for the lip balm... I hope it's better in its original packaging, I had to drag it across my lips to apply and felt very dry. I prefer emollient lip balms where I don't have to drag it across my lips. I suspect that the packaging it was dispensed in didn't really help.
The lipstick and lip crayon are one of the best colour choices they could have picked out for a birthday gift. I personally think they would suit many skin tones. I don't have a confirmed MAC shade yet, but I believe I'm around NC30, I also take the darkest shade available in Korean cushions, usually #23 or #25 if it exists since it is my exact match.
Chai is a warm mauve leaning towards the pinkish red side, very creamy. Glacé is a bit cooler than Chai – leaning a muted mauve and is slightly less creamy than Chai. I almost thought they were dupes of each other in a different lip product format. It's only noticeable on the lips and not so much on the hand swatch.
The photos below were captured in natural daylight near a window without any editing aside from blurring the skin around my mouth.
As you can see Chai fits my complexion much better as I lean warm but Glacé isn't entirely off-limits. I can't wait what next year will bring, for now I'm adding Chai to my lipstick wish list.
